Tuesday 12th May

Tuesday 12th we returned to Scotswood where we had stopped the previous day and met up with our guide to recommence our journey. It is some way from our hotel in Carlisle to Newcastle and by the time we reached our venue we were all bursting but a very kind Audi dealership offered to let us use their loos for which our heartfelt thanks. We have since received a donation from them so again our grateful thanks.

Getting Ready for the next stage

We continued our journey with Mike filming, this time riding the bike, and Philip walking but did not realise how close to the road we were 'til we had to cross the really busy A1. Luckily there was a pedestrian crossing but getting us and nine scooters across was a bit hairy and we were grateful we still had our guide with us. After the piece about us on TV all the lorry, car and van drivers were waving and tooting us and lots of people came up to us to wish us well and say "Saw you on the tele last night" It felt great.

We continued a long the riverside with our guide as far as he could take us, thanks Paul for all your help,  and then were on our own! We followed the river to Wylam Bridge and met with the boys and truck but as we were doing so well and no-one wanted to stop yet, and the weather was beautiful we decided to continue onto Ovingham (further than anticipated). The views were again wonderful and each day is turning out to offer completely different scenery.

On The Wylam Way

We met up again with the men at Ovingham and waited for Dave and the truck which we saw fly past us in the car park to very narrow bridge and watched as he had to back it up and turn round, everyone else obviously having to back up out of his way! We then loaded up and returned to the hotel at about 4.30pm.  There was much hilarity after dinner that evening at the end of meal, mostly due to Philip who had cramp in his foot and aimed at Mike and his delicate rear end after his first day in the saddle after about twenty years – you had to be there!
