2009 Walk Diary Monday 11th Tuesday 12th Wednesday 13th Thursday 14th Friday 15th Weekend

Wednesday 20th May

Wednesday 20th again as we are nearer the hotel it was a later start.  Today we travelled from north of Irthington to Brunscomb (the outskirts of Carlisle).  As we were unloading the scooters on the side of the road a vintage tractor came along and the driver told us about his journey on this tractor from John O'Groats to Landsend - mmmm now there's a thought!!!.

On the road.............

We were situated next to a busy main road as we did the unloading and lots of the lorries and cars were tooting their horns and waving at us although that was nothing to what happened in the village of Irthington itself. As we travelled through the village people were coming up to us giving donations for the charity and as we passed the school all the children and their teachers were in the playground waving and cheering us on.  It was a really heartwarming moment and one we will remember for a long time, thank you all at the school for your good wishes to us.

again..........

While on the way I received a phone call to say a reporter from BBC Radio Cumbria was coming out to meet us for an interview.  We had a problem on this stretch of the journey as there were no public loos and we had thought there was a pub we could have a break at and also use their loos - it was closed!  One of the girls could not manage to wait any longer so it was over the fence for her, not the easiest of feats when you have ms! It was while we were waiting that the reporter caught up with us and interviewed us for an item that was to be aired the following morning on Radio Cumbria. Interview over we set off again and happened upon a golf course at Crosby on Eden.  By now we were really needing loos and one of our roadies went up to the golf club and asked if they could help out a group of ladies in distress.  So instead of golf buggies riding up the drive to the club nine mobility scooters could be seen trundling to take advantage of their offer!!!!

While there the reporter caught up with us as the interview hadn't taped properly so we had to redo it.  Then it was all systems go and on to our next stop.
